I just realised that there are many out there, especially, those around my age group, who feel the same way as me about the change happening in Indian Cricket. I am posting a link that a friend sent me today that completely elaborates what I was saying in the last few lines of my previous post. Just one thing though, like all Indian men the author of this article completely ignores the fact that a whole generation of women who grew up along with them watched as much cricket as them and love the fab five as much as they do. Cricket dominated the nineties, my growing years, completely...the good and bad, the amazing achievements of Tendulkar, Dravid, Kumble, Ganguly, Laxman... then that whole crap with Azhar happend, I remember I cried, it was a kind of 'loss of innocence'. I did my share of debating about team selection and plenty of match analysis (yes, inspite of being just a girl!)... I even greatly admired and argued about players like Waugh, Warne, Mcgrath, Kallis, Gibbs, Cairns n the rest...loved and hated Wasim Akram & other Pakistani greats of the past, I was crazy about Jonty Rhodes...
Not only do I feel really bad about the vacuum that seems to be getting created in the Indian team, I feel something similar is happening in the other teams too. I felt really sad when Gilchrist retired. I was just telling a friend that creeps and weasels seem to be taking over cricket... weasel being Clarke...I will leave you to figure who I think is a creep!
Finally, I must compliment the author of the following article for capturing the emotions of a whole generation of cricket lovers so poignantly...

Agree with you completely, my grandad and grandmom were cricket crazy probably grandma more than granddad though grandad was the one who played the game!! Mom normally leaves everything aside when there is match on tv ( these days some of the serials are quite tempting though!) and ofcourse she has a strong opinion on Sachin , Sehwag and the rest and how they should be playing their game!!!
Just to comment on the Vaccum thing!! guess we are growing old!! just like the uncles and aunts would comment on Mr.Umrigar, Mr. Bedi, Mr.Prassanna, Mr.Chandrashekar, Mr.Vishwanath we are used to the fab five , we will soon see the next generation talk about Gambhir, Sehwag, Ishant ( hopefully!), Bhajji, Dhoni etc in the same way probably 8- 10 years hence, wat say?!!
Hey hey, how come my fav -- Hansie Cronje got left out? I still can't believe he was part of that entire match-fixing thing. I actually stopped watching cricket matches after Cronje was disgraced.
Amongst South African captains I feel sorry for Clive Rice ( he came in at 42 or something!!) and Shuan Pollock poor mathematics ended his captaincy, one more run at that world cup match and they would have sailed through poor guy!!
