Anil Kumble- A cricketer and a gentleman

Sportsperson ho to aisa ho!

I dont know how many of you watched the match in which Kumble played with his fractured jaw taped, it was a lesson in tenacity and determination. And it was not just one isolated incident of incredible heroism, he was always there with his own special brand of confidence.
It feels like the beginning of the end for me...all these big guys in cricket I grew up watching are leaving and I for one think it is too soon, for some by an year or two for others by longer. The mad obsession I had with cricket is slowly wearing off. Sigh, I think I'll take up golf!

Just caught up on this post, agree with you on the fact that these guys still have cricket left in them, definitely test cricket where experience counts as much as raw talent.. which is your fav Kumble moment? cant decide between the 100 and the 10 wicket haul!!then there are others...

My fav moment is when he returned to the field to bowl with his jaw bandaged up in the final session of the third day at St John's. After a disappointing tour of the West Indies, his bravery in trying to salvage something was typical of him anyway he became a kind of God for me that day.

And guess what? At a get together where 3 guys kept switching on the TV to see the score every half an hour, I commented that I felt really sad that Kumble had decided to call it a day there was absolute silence! Do Indian 'fans' want only stars and not players?
