Travel n living therapy

I am not a huge fan of electronic news, the hysteria and utter shamelessness of it makes me very uncomfortable. Things got really worse after 9/11, the ghastly pictures of the plane crashing into the building became a kind of benchmark for news channels, it was almost like they were all competing to get a scarier sight than that. Personally, for me, they managed to do it with all those pictures of children’s bones in Nithari. Around that time my TV remote decided to migrate to travel & lifestyle channels.
Now I am hooked. I am a major foodie so meeting Anthony Bourdain, Jamie Oliver and Kylie Kwong was a life changing experience (I got hungrier!). I got a whole lot of fodder for my diet of daydreams too. All those wonderful places, with beautiful beaches; hills; food and lovely people were beckoning me. I would look at the vast quantities of lovely clothes and make resolutions everyday to become a fashionable size ten (wild dreams!!!) and look all chic. I would look at quaint little homes with quirky architecture and tell myself I must remember this for when (if ever) I build my own home.
Anyway, I don’t know if I will ever manage to fulfill any of the above fantasies but one thing that I do know is that, these channels have helped me escape the clutches of news and have saved my sanity. I recommend a strong dose of these channels to those afflicted like me.

I used to be hooked to news channels till quite recently.....then the media overkill on certain topics started getting on to my nerves....The so called "Abhiash wedding of the century" was the proverbial nail on the coffin.....the time that i used to reserve for news channels has dwindled to 5 mins of headlines....that shows the kind of progress (+ve or -ve??????) that the electronic media has made in India...

A question for you - "Are Irreverance and disrespect bad for society or do they promote free though and innovation?"
