Written in utter anguish after someone told me of a girl who was repeatedly raped by her father over a period of many months, I was already very disturbed about the war in Iraq and the massacres in Gujarat, thus, the extended ranting.
Nothing sacred about it!
Relationships-
Father to daughter,
With mother’s back to her.
Husbands to wives,
With incidental children in their lives.
Sex-
Bound in rules,
Policed by self-appointed fools.
Always apologizing for choices,
That weren’t already hidden in lies.
Education-
Degrees define learning,
Knowledge is left drowning.
Tiny tots tottering to school,
They still can’t wipe their own drool.
Work-
Bribe, beat, bully,
But get a job finally.
For you are your job,
No more than a mere corporate blob.
History-
Heroes are imposed and quickly disposed,
Gandhi is used and often abused.
Invented, re-invented, twisted and turned,
With every new government a new chapter’s learnt.
Geography-
Boundaries get tighter,
Walls built higher.
A global village for the rich,
Roads for the rest don’t reach.
Humanity-
What?
What’s that?
A word generally confined to classroom,
But often invoked in times of doom.
Most of all religion-
Holy Christ, Allah hoo, hey Ram, wahe Guru,
All mere names none ring true.
Tossed around, round and round.
This ‘sacred’ word will be the burial ground.
